Wer ist Students for Future HSRW?
Wir sind eine Gruppe von Studierenden aus verschiedenen Studiengängen und Semestern, die sich zusammengeschlossen haben, um für ein gemeinsames Ziel zu kämpfen – Klimagerechtigkeit. Auf der Grundlage wissenschaftlicher Expertise erkennen wir die Klimakrise als eine globale, existentielle und massiv ungerechte Bedrohung für Mensch und Umwelt an. Wir kämpfen für eine lebenswerte Zukunft für alle. Deshalb sind wir Teil von „Fridays For Future“ und ebenso international, überparteilich, autonom und dezentral. Dazu gehört der Kampf für eine Welt ohne Rassismus, Sexismus, Fremdenfeindlichkeit und jede Form von Diskriminierung.
An unserer jungen Hochschule Rhein Waal wird Internationalität und Diversität großgeschrieben, denn von den über 7.300 Studierenden sind 53% internationaler Herkunft und so werden 126 Staaten an den beiden Standpunkten Kleve und Kamp-Lintfort vereint. Obwohl einige Studiengänge schon Themen wie Nachhaltigkeit und Klima stark einbinden, ist uns trotzdem aufgefallen, dass viele Studierende nicht gut aufgeklärt sind was den Klimawandel, seine Folgen und Maßnahmen dagegen angeht. Deswegen haben wir uns aus der Ortsgruppe Fridays For Future Kleve heraus gegründet, mit dem Ziel, Studierende aufzuklären und aktiv die Hochschule nachhaltiger zu gestalten. Mit der FFF Ortsgruppe stehen wir immer noch im engen Kontakt und verwirklichen einige Projekte zusammen mit ihnen. So teilen wir uns auch ein Büro unweit der Hochschule, welches Austausch und Zusammenkommen ermöglichen soll.
We are a group of students from different study programmes and semesters who came together to fight for a common goal – climate justice. On the basis of scientific expertise, we recognize the climate crisis as a global, existential, and massively unjust threat to people and the environment. We fight for a future worth living for all. That’s why we are part of Fridays for Future and just as international, non-partisan, autonomous and decentralized. This includes to fight for a world without racism, sexism, xenophobia and any form of discrimination.
At our young Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, internationality and diversity are very important, because 53% of the more than 7,300 students are of international origin, and so 126 countries are united at the two locations Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. Although some study programs already strongly integrate topics such as sustainability and climate, we have noticed that many students are not well informed about climate change, its consequences and measures against it. For this reason, we founded ourself on the basis of the Fridays For Future Kleve local group, with the goal of educating students and actively shaping the university more sustainably. We are still in close contact with the Fridays For Future local group and realize some of our projects together with them. For instance, we also share an office not far from the university, which is intended to facilitate exchange and coming together.

Aufgrund der Corona Pandemie und des Online Studiums sind unsere Möglichkeiten, Projekte und Ideen umzusetzen, stark eingeschränkt. Das Leben an der Uni ist zum Stillstand gekommen und unser Planungsteam hat entschieden, dass wir eine Pause machen. Bald werden wir wieder mit neuer Energie und frischen Ideen versuchen gemeinsam mehr Nachhaltigkeit an unserer Hochschule umzusetzen. Passt gut auf euch auf und bleibt gesund, bis dann!
Due to the Corona Pandemic and online study, our ability to realize projects and ideas has been severely limited. Life at the university has come to a standstill and our planning team has decided that we are taking a break. Soon we will be back with new energy and fresh ideas trying to implement more sustainability at our university together. Take care and stay healthy, see you then!

Lectures For Future
Lectures For Future wurde von Professoren unserer Hochschule ins Leben gerufen. Vor der Corona Pandemie wurde regelmäßig zu einem bestimmten Datum dazu aufgerufen, dass Professoren und Lehrende den Inhalt ihrer curricularen Lehrveranstaltungen durch das Thema Klima ersetzen, um Studenten den menschengemachten Klimawandel näher zu bringen. „Dabei sollte es keinerlei Vorgaben an den genauen Inhalt und die Umsetzung geben – eine Mathematikerin kann mit ihren Studierenden beispielsweise auf die Berechnung von Klimamodellen eingehen, der Soziologie diskutiert im Seminar möglicherweise die gesellschaftlichen Konsequenzen einer Temperaturerhöhung um 4°C. Wichtig ist nur, dass die gesamte Lehrveranstaltung unter diesem Motto steht und der geplante Lehrstoff sozusagen durch ein mit dem Klimawandel verbundenes Thema ersetzt wird – gerne mit Bezug zur eigentlichen Veranstaltung.“
Während der Corona Pandemie finden diese klimabezogenen Vorlesungen das gesamte Semester lang (online) statt und sind teilweise für alle öffentlich zugänglich. Ihr könnt dazu die Webseite der Lectures For Future aufrufen und gucken, welche Vorlesungen diese Woche angeboten werden!
Lectures For Future was started by professors at our university. Before the Corona pandemic, there was a regular call for professors and lecturers to replace the content of their curricular courses with the topic of climate on a specific date in order to give students an understanding of man-made climate change. „There should be no specifications on the exact content and implementation – a mathematician, for example, can go into the calculation of climate models with her students, while a sociologist might discuss the social consequences of a 4°C temperature increase in a seminar. The only important thing is that the entire course is under this motto and the planned subject matter is replaced, so to speak, by a topic related to climate change – preferably with reference to the actual course.“

Unsere Projekte und Events
Gründung eines AStA Nachhaltigkeitsreferats
Seit dem Frühjahr 2020 arbeitet eine kleine aber sehr engagierte Arbeitsgruppe an einem Konzept zur Gründung eines AStA Referats für Nachhaltigkeit. Ziel ist es Umwelt- und Klimathemen in der Hochschulpolitik ein stärkeres Gewicht zu geben, verschiedene Initiativen der Hochschule in ihrer Arbeit zu unterstützen und Veranstaltungen zu organisieren, die eine Diskussion unter den Studierenden über Möglichkeiten des nachhaltigen gesellschaftlichen Wandels anregen soll. Während die Arbeitsgruppe den Antrag für die Gründung eines AStA Nachhaltigkeitsreferats schrieb, stand sie in einem intensiven Austausch mit dem Studierendenparlament, der aktuellen AStA Geschäftsführung und den Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen der Hochschule. Über den finalen Antrag und die Gründung eines AStA Nachhaltigkeitsdepartments entscheidet das Studierendenparlament am 16. Dezember.
Since spring 2020, a small but very committed task force has been working on a concept for an AStA Sustainability Department. Our aim is to give environmental and climate issues a stronger weight in university politics, to support the work of various university initiatives and to organize events that encourage a discussion about possibilities for sustainable social change. While the task force wrote the motion to establish a Sustainability Department, it did its best to respond to ideas and critzism from the student parliament, the current AStA board and the university’s sustainability initiatives. The student parliament will decide on the final application and the establishment of an AStA Sustainability Department on December, 16.
Solidarisierung mit dem Widerstand gegen die A49 im Dannenröder Forst
Wir, die Students For Future der Hochschule Rhein-Waal, erklären uns solidarisch mit den gewaltfreien Protesten im Dannenröder Forst. Das Projekt der Waldbesetzung und das Protestcamp sind ein symbolischer Ort, an dem Menschen alternative, nachhaltige Lebensweisen und sich gemeinschaftlich organsieren leben. Zum Beispiel durch basisdemokratische Entscheidungsprozesse, Wertschätzung und gerechte Verteilung von “Care Work “, als auch nach zum Beispiel Ansätze von einer Sharing Economy. Es ist ein Ort, an dem Solidarität, Kritik an endlosem Wachstum, Kapitalismus und Konsumgesellschaft gelebt wird. Wir müssen unser ökonomisches System überdenken und global als auch generationsübergreifend gerechte Wege des zusammenzulebens finden, um die Klimakrise zu stoppen. Einen gesunden Wald und Trinkwasserspeicher in Zeiten von Klimawandel, Trinkwassernotständen, Arten- und Waldsterben zu zerstören ist skandalös. Und das für eine Autobahn, die weiter unsere klimaschädliche Mobilität fördert? Mit vollgas in die Krise.
Wir brauch eine soziale und ökologische Verkehrswende!
We, the Students For Future of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, declare our solidarity with the non-violent protests in the Dannenröder Forst. In the project the activists live together in a communal way, exploring alternative ways of living together. For example sharing care work equally, exploring the possibilities of organizing in grassroot democratic decision making processes, sharing economy and a sustainable way of living. It is a safe space to live solidarity, criticism of capitalism like consumerism and constant growth. We have to reflect our economic system and find alternative, sustainable ways of living to stop the climate crisis! Cutting down a healthy forest is scandalous, especially in times of the current climate crisis. We urgently need those natural CO2 storages! Moreover building another highway leads us further into fostering a traffic system that we cannot sustain anymore.
We need a need a transition to a socio ecological traffic system!
Anti-AfD Demo in Kalkar am 28. & 29.11.2020
Die „Alternative für Deutschland“ (Abkürzung: AfD) ist eine rechtspopulistische, teilweise auch rechtsextreme politische Partei in Deutschland. Diese Partei hat am 28. November ihren Bundesparteitag abgehalten, an dem über 500 Personen teilgenommen haben. Die Partei ist also nicht nur unglaublich rücksichtslos, sondern auch gefährlich. 💩 Die rechtspopulistische Partei geht tatsächlich davon aus, dass der Klimawandel nicht menschengemacht ist. Es sei schon immer wärmer und kälter gewesen, argumentieren sie bewusst naiv. Dahinter steckt jedoch die Strategie, sich möglichst deutlich von anderen Parteien abzugrenzen und ein eigenes „Anti-Image“ zu pflegen. Dass ihre Position einer überwältigenden Mehrheit wissenschaftlicher Studien widerspricht, scheint sie nur noch mehr zu motivieren. Sollte sich die AfD mit ihren Forderungen durchsetzen können, hätte dies katastrophale Folgen für das Klima in Deutschland und weltweit. Deshalb ist diese Partei keineswegs „eine Alternative“!
Wir haben uns mit dem Aufruf von „Aufstehen gegen Rassismus“ solidarisch gezeigt und die Gegendemonstration in Kalkar am 27. und 28. November unterstützt. Schon am Freitag sind über 100 Demonstranten am Wunderland Kalkar zusammengekommen und haben mit Abstand und Masken die AfD Delegierten unfreundlich empfangen. Am Samstag erschienen über 500 und setzten somit trotz der Pandemie und der Kälte ein deutliches Zeichen gegen den Faschismus, denn Hass ist keine Meinung und Rassismus keine Alternative!
The “Alternative for Germany” (abbreviation: AfD) is a right-wing populist political party in Germany that is also partly extreme right-wing. This party did hold its Federal Party Convention on the 28th of November in person, with over 500 participants. So, the party is not only incredibly reckless, but also dangerous. 💩 The right-wing populist party actually assumes that climate change is not man-made. It has always been warmer and colder; they argue intentionally naively. Behind this, however, is the strategy of standing out as clearly as possible from other parties and cultivating their own „anti-image“. The fact that their position contradicts an overwhelming majority of scientific studies only seems to motivate them even more. If the AfD were able to assert its demands, this would have catastrophic consequences for the climate in Germany and worldwide. Therefore, this party is not at all “an alternative”!
We showed solidarity with the call of „Aufstehen gegen Rassismus” (Rising against racism) and supported the counter-demonstration in Kalkar on November 27 and 28. More than 100 demonstrators already came together on Friday at Wunderland Kalkar and received the AfD delegates unfriendly with distance and masks. On Saturday, over 500 appeared and thus set despite the pandemic and the cold a clear sign against fascism, because hate is not an opinion and racism is not an alternative!
Fahrradtouren
Wir haben den Sommer genutzt, um möglichst pandemieverträgliche aktiv zu sein. So haben wir neben zu Hause bleiben zum Beispiel Fahrradtouren organisiert und an der Aktion Stadtradeln 2020 teilgenommen. Wir möchten damit auf die Wichtigkeit einer Verkehrswende aufmerksam machen. Auch auf den Status Quo, der in den Städten kaum Platz lässt für klimafreundliche Mobilität. Vielerorts ist der Straßenverkehr auf das Auto ausgerichtet und macht es gerade zu gefährlich sich aufs Rad zu schwingen, da es nicht genügend ausgebaute Radwege und Stellplätze gibt. Um auf diesen Missstand aufmerksam zu machen, mobilisieren wir auch regelmäßig zur Critical Mass und fahren dort gemeinsam um Radverkehr sichtbar zu machen.
We tried to be active this summer to be active as pandemic-friendly as possible. Besides staying at home, we organized bike tours and took part in the city cycling campaign 2020. We want to draw attention to the importance of a traffic transition towards socio-ecological sustainability. Also to the status quo, which leaves hardly any room for climate-friendly mobility in cities. In many places, road traffic is geared towards the car and makes it dangerous to get on a bike because there are not enough developed bike paths and parking spaces. In order to draw attention to this grievance, we also regularly mobilize for Critical Mass and ride our bikes together to make cycling traffic visible.

Black Lives Matter Demo 20.06.
“Black Lives Matter” ist eine aus den USA stammende Bewegung, die sich gegen Gewalt an Afroamerikaner*innen und People of Color richtet. Auch in Kleve gab es eine Black Lives Matter Demo nach dem gewaltsamen Tod von George Floyd bei einem Polizeieinsatz in den USA. Zusammen haben wir mit hunderten ein Zeichen gegen Hass und Rassismus gesetzt.
„Black Lives Matter“ is a movement originating in the USA, which is directed against violence against African Americans and People of Color. In Kleve, too, there was a Black Lives Matter demonstration after the violent death of George Floyd during a police operation in the USA. Together with hundreds of people we set a sign against hate and racism.
Livestream Plakat Demo 24.06.2020
Anlässlich des einjährigen Geburtstages der Ausrufung des Klimanotstands in Kleve hat Fridays For Future Kleve sich eine sehr Corona konforme Demonstration ausgedacht. Die Ortsgruppe hat Plakatschilder von Aktivisten aus dem ganzen Kreis Kleve gesammelt und diese vor dem Rathaus ausgelegt. Dazu gab es einige Interviews mit Politikern und weiteren Menschen wie dem Klimamanager und die ganze Aktion wurde per Livestream für alle zugängig gemacht. Auch wir haben Plakate dazu beigesteuert und somit von den Zuständigen in Kleve gefordert, dass sie sich an ihre eigenen Klimaziele halten!
To mark the one-year anniversary of the declaration of the climate emergency in Kleve, Fridays For Future Kleve came up with a very Corona compliant demonstration. The local group collected poster signs from activists all over the Kleve district and displayed them in front of the city hall. In addition, there were some interviews with politicians and other people like the climate manager and the whole action was made available to everyone via livestream. We also contributed posters and thus demanded from the responsible people in Kleve that they stick to their own climate goals!
Clean Up 21.08.2020
Im Rahmen der diesjährigen “Summer Trash Kampagne” der Students For Future Germany haben wir zusammen mit den Fridays in Kleve einen Clean Up am Bahnhof organisiert. Dabei haben wir innerhalb von einer Stunde mehr als 7 Müllsäcke gefüllt, z.B. mit unzähligen Zigarettenstummeln und Einwegmasken. Während der ersten Monate der Corona Pandemie haben private Haushalte in Deutschland im Durchschnitt 11% mehr Müll produziert. Immer mehr davon landet in der Natur und gefährdet Tierleben. Die ganze Aktion stand also unter dem Motto “Be the change you wish to see in the world”!
As part of this year’s „Summer Trash Campaign“ of Students For Future Germany, we organized a Clean Up at the train station together with the Fridays in Kleve. Thereby we filled more than 7 trash bags within one hour, e.g. with countless cigarette stubs and disposable masks. During the first months of the Corona Pandemic, private households in Germany produced on average 11% more garbage. More and more of it ends up in nature and endangers animal life. So the whole action was under the motto „Be the change you wish to see in the world“!
Spontan Demo Moria 09.09.2020
Anlässlich der Brände Anfang September in dem völlig überfüllten Flüchtlingscamp Moria auf der griechischen Insel Lesbos haben wir mit FFF Kleve innerhalb weniger Stunden eine spontane Demo auf die Beine gestellt. Auch andere Organisationen haben uns unterstützt und viele Menschen haben Reden gehalten. Zusammen haben wir unsere Meinung kundgetan, dass Moria sofort evakuiert werden sollte und wir hier in Deutschland noch mehr als genug Platz haben, um Menschen in Not aufzunehmen!
On the occasion of the fires at the beginning of September in the completely overcrowded refugee camp Moria on the Greek island of Lesbos, we have set up a spontaneous demo with FFF Kleve within a few hours. Other organizations also supported us and many people gave speeches. Together we made our opinion known that Moria should be evacuated immediately and that we still have more than enough space here in Germany to welcome people in need!
Wahlprüfsteine vor Kommunalwahl Kleve 13.09.2020
Im Rahmen der Kommunalwahlen 2020 hat die Ortsgruppe FFF Kleve einen Flyer aufgesetzt, indem sie den zu Wahl stehenden Parteien Fragen bezüglich des Klimawandels und der Klimagerechtigkeit gestellt haben. Unsere Hochschulgruppe hat den Flyer ins Englische übersetzt und diesen Online gestellt, damit auch alle (wahlberechtigten) Studierenden sich eine Meinung bilden konnten. Ebenso haben wir uns an mehreren Samstagen mit den Fridays in die Innenstadt zwischen die anderen Parteien gestellt und die Flyer an die Klever Bevölkerung ausgeteilt.
In the context of the communal elections 2020, the local group FFF Kleve has put up a flyer asking the parties standing for election questions regarding climate change and climate justice. Our university group translated the flyer into English and put it online so that all (eligible) students could form an opinion. Likewise, on several Saturdays, we stood in the city center between the other parties and handed out the flyers to the people of Kleve together with activists from Fridays for Future Kleve.
Fahrraddemo 25.09.2020 (mit Büroeröffnung)
Am 25.September war erneut ein Globaler Klimastreik. Um diesen möglichst Corona konform zu gestalten, haben wir zusammen mit Fridays for Future Kleve eine Fahrraddemo organisiert. An diesem Tag haben wir in Kleve besonders für eine Verkehrswende demonstriert, denn die klimaschädlichen Autos haben immer noch die Vorherrschaft auf den Straßen und wir forderten eine bessere Infrastruktur für Fahrräder und öffentliche Verkehrsmittel. Die Fahrraddemo endete an dem neuen Fridays for Future Büro, welches wir vorher über Monate renoviert und verschönert haben, um es an diesem besonderen Tag zu eröffnen. Das gemütliche Büro auf der Van-Den-Bergh-Straße soll fortan als Anlaufstelle und Planungsstützpunkt fungieren.
On September 25th there was another Global Climate Strike. To make it as Corona compliant as possible, we organized a bicycle demonstration together with Fridays for Future Kleve. On this day we demonstrated in Kleve especially for a transformation of traffic, because the climate-damaging cars still have the dominance on the roads and we demanded a better infrastructure for bicycles and public transport. The bike demo ended at the new Fridays for Future office, which we renovated and refurbished for months beforehand to officially open on this special day. From now on, the cozy office on Van Den Bergh Street will serve as a contact point and planning base.
Youth Climate Action Day – Video 05.12.2020
An dem diesjährigen globalen “Youth Climate Action Day” hat Fridays For Future Kleve ein Video hochgeladen, mit einer deutlichen Nachricht: Wir stecken immer noch mitten in einer Klimakrise und die Politik muss handeln! Das Video wurde von mehreren Personen mitgestaltet, auch wir von den Students haben dazu beigetragen. Schaut es euch auf dem Youtube Kanal von Fridays For Future Kleve an!
On this year’s global Youth Climate Action Day, Fridays For Future Kleve uploaded a video with a clear message: we are still in the middle of a climate crisis and politics must act! The video was co-created by several people, including us from the Students. Check it out on the Youtube channel of Fridays For Future!
Seedbomb – Workshop
Während des ersten “Lockdowns” wegen der Corona Pandemie Anfang Juni haben wir einen digitalen Workshop veranstaltet, bei dem die Teilnehmenden sogenannte Seedbombs herstellen konnten. Das sind kleine Kugeln bestehend aus Ton, Erde und Blumensamen. Sie sind dazu gedacht Brachflächen einfach zu begrünen, indem man sie einfach auf einen Fleck Erde wirft, auf Regen hofft und dann den Blümchen beim Wachsen zuguckt. Dadurch kann man aktiv gegen das Insektensterben wirken und zeitgleich seine Umgebung verschönern.
Die Teilnehmer sind dann pünktlich zum World Environment Day am 6. Juni losgegangen und haben rund um Kleve ihre Seedbombs verteilt, um unsere Stadt etwas grüner und insektenfreundlicher zu machen.
During the first „lockdown“ due to the Corona pandemic at the beginning of June, we held a digital workshop where participants could make so-called seedbombs. These are small balls consisting of clay, soil and flower seeds. They are intended to green up fallow land simply by throwing them on a patch of soil, hoping for rain, and then watching the little flowers grow. In this way, you can actively counteract insect mortality and at the same time beautify your surroundings.
The participants then set off in time for World Environment Day on June 6 and distributed their seed bombs around Kleve to make our city a little greener and more insect-friendly.
Gründung & Cookie Aktion in der Mensa
In Folge einer Vollversammlung der FFF Ortsgruppe Kleve im Herbst 2019, entschlossen die anwesenden Studentinnen eine Students For Future Gruppe an der Hochschule Rhein-Waal zu gründen, um mehr Studierende über die Arbeit von Fridays For Future zu informieren und sie zu den Freitagsdemonstrationen zu mobilisieren. Als erste Aktion verschenkten wir am 20. November selbstgebackene vegane Kekse sowie Flyer und Aufkleber für den nächsten globalen Klimastreik an unsere Kommilitonen in der Mensa. Die veganen Kekse schmeckten allen sehr gut, und wir könnten viele neue Mitglieder für unsere Whatsapp-Gruppe und Followerer für unsere Social Media Kanäle akquirieren.
Following a plenary assembly of the FFF Kleve in autumn 2019, the university students present decided to found a Students For Future group at our University to inform more students about the work of Fridays For Future and to encourage them to go to the demonstrations on fridays. As a first activity, we gave away homemade vegan cookies as well as flyers and stickers for the next global climate strike to our fellow students in the canteen on November 20th. Everyone who tried them, loved our vegan cookies, and we could acquire many new members for our Whatsapp group and followers for our social media channels.
